Raat akeli hai- A murder mystery not to be missed

`Raat akeli hai is an irony in the movie “Raat Akeli hai” because here no one is alone, let alone the night. The film is set in Kanpur, and in the opening scene is a flashback to take the audience 5 years back then the present day. It is a gloomy night, indicating that something terrible is going to happen; we see a truck following a car, and then it crashes into it. The driver comes out only to kill the victims ruthless.  The film comes to the present day where another murder has taken place. An influential man of Kanpur, Thakur Raghubeer Singh (Khalid Tyabji), has been shot dead on his wedding night and in his own bedroom. And, no one in the house has heard a thing.  It is when Jatil (Nawazuddin) with other cops come into the picture to probe the murder. Jatil, as the name signifies is firm, and takes pride in saying it too. He announces to the family members that the case has come in his hands, and he will do anything to uncover the murderer. Everyone is in the circle of suspicion, from  Thakur's children to their cousins and other family members and the bride. Like any other murder-mystery, the film has multi-layers that opens with every revelation. Everyone has their own reasons to murder Thakur, but the question is who has actually done it. While the audience, along with Jatil, is trying to find answers to the questions, Jatil remembers that he has met Radha(the bride) before. A new bond surface after they recall each other; Jatil is quite sure that it wasn't Radha who murdered her husband, but who was he/she? To find answers, he needs to connect a lot of strings. And, when he is in the process of knowing things, his senior, Lalji Shukla(Tigmanshu Dhulia), intervenes to remind Jatil his boundaries before another affluent man, Munna Raja comes into the picture. But, our hero is really stubborn, and this gets him suspended too.  He doesn't stop and continues his investigation only to find that the strings are more strangled beneath the layers. As the case proceeds, everyone in the house is quite convinced that the bride has murdered her husband to acquire the wealth, but why would she do so? She was already going to acquire a lot of things and positions when Raghubeer was alive. Later, it is discovered the now wife of Raghubeer was previously his mistress and also had an affair with Raghubeer's nephew Vikram. The police come to know that Radha had called Vikram several times before the murder took place. So, did the two lovers had done this to throw him out of their way? At one point, Jatil is convinced with this story too; but, his mind and heart are not able to sync with each other, and can't accept that fact that Radha had sone this. He had to find the hanging strings to know the truth, and he goes on to find it. However, the moment he comes close to finding a major clue that clue seems to slip from his grip. He is suspicious of everyone including the servants who seem to know more than they should. And, it's not just the police, the family members are sceptical also doubtful of each other. Everyone seems to have their own reasons to murder Raghubeer, but who has done it actually? It is still a big question that Jatil is yet to find out. Would he able to solve this twisted case and uncover the murderer. This movie seems to take the audience on a rollercoaster with Jatil to find the truth which lies under several layers of lies and stories. When the truth lays bare in front of people, you feel betrayed by your own idea of the murderer.
