Afsos(2020-)- A realization that life is an infinite loop
Afsos is a black comedy, Nakul is a frustrated young man who has lost all hopes of becoming a writer. But, his life was never like this before, he was passionate to become a writer and to fulfil his dream he had even left his job. However, he failed at it and many of his relationships too. He didn't lose hope and goes back to do his previous work, but is sacked out. After being fired from a couple of jobs, he loses his patience. When his therapist suggestions and advice fails to change his situation, he decides to take his life. However, he fails at it too. Every time he tries to commit suicide, someone or the other person jumps into the scene and saves him on the cost of their lives. After being frustrated at his own destiny, he discovers an agency that can help him die. So, he signs a contract of his murder. Things change when a new day arises, and he is still alive. He is assured that he will be killed today, but would his destiny help him get rid of his life. Well, it doesn't seem so, he awaits his death as a lover, and when finally the moment comes, he wishes to live. What might have happened in a couple of hours that inspired him to live, was it an inspirational speech or while living his last day, he realises that it's more to life than quitting it. But, the reason for his change of mind is different from every possible point you may want to site. It's his therapist, Shaloka that manages to change his mind by saying that she genuinely cares for him. She confesses that she wouldn't have just let him go after he had recovered. The moment she confesses her feelings, the bullet hits Nakul's head. Will he finally get rid of his life now? Another story builds up parallelly, a remote hilly area is baffled with the murders of 12 sadhus. It is apparently a city where policemen don't even know how to lodge a fir because the city has never experienced any crime. The policemen take up this challenge to solve the case; they do whatever they can and collect all the possible evidence. Are both of them connected, and how? The revelations and interconnected stories make the story even murkier. The stories are woven so well that nothing seems to be out of place.
Afsos makes us realise that the thing we aspire to become might take a little longer, you just need to hang in there. Or even when we achieve it, it becomes insignificant.
Also, the story starts with Nakul lying down on the tracks waiting for the train to come and ends on the same tracks. So, did he die this time? For that, you have to watch the full series.
Gulshan Devaiah steals the show, there isn't any dull moment that would make you skip any second.
The end of the story also has a deep message which is: life is a circle, you would often find coming back to the start thinking it would be an end.
